Ewing’s sarcoma or peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor at the base of tongue: a rare location case report

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor now termed as Ewings sarcoma/PNET, representing a family of tumors with varying degrees neuronal differentiation and genetic rearrangements. Most common sites are extraosseous involving trunk lower limb. Base tongue is very rare site for Ewing’s/PNET, hence in view rarity the location an uncommon presentation, case has been reported better understanding supporting literature similar finding. A 68 years old female patient presented complaint difficulty swallowing since 3 months. On examination growth was identified at left side base tongue. Biopsy processed stained H&E other relevant markers. Differentials on basis microscopic were lymphoma, neuroendocrine tumor. Various immunohistochemical markers to rule out given differential used. The positive CD 99 vimentin. repored PNET. PNET challenging topic. Wide range locations have observed but head neck being less needs be studied behavior this highly malignant disease so that can benefitted by advanced multimodality treatments including surgery, chemotherapy radiotherapy.
